Great analogy, one of the best I’ve seen in this crazy debate.

Without encryption, we will never know that a call, transaction, etc is between the two parties they claim to be. Without trustworthy encryption, we can never trust e-commerce, online banking and so on. Without strong encryption and strong authentication, we have no functional Internet.
