There are many reasons, sometimes not obvious to you or your business why your site could be hacked. Maybe it’s not YOU they are after but you customers? Or your suppliers? Or they are after your internal BS communications like in the Sony Entertainment hack? Or they ARE after you with ransomware just because you make money?


Your URL is an attractive asset, but so is the server that hosts it. Surely, hacking can just be for the “lulz”, but more importantly the site can be hacked just to inject malware code that opens the doors to the visitors systems. And there can be a big reason, political and economical, to attack that system. So by not protecting your site you are, in fact, an accomplice to the hack of your visitors system.
