How I cracked NQ Vault’s “encryption” – ninjadoge24’s blog

NQ Vault is one of the most popular apps for hiding content on your phone. However, hiding, or “security by obscurity” is not the same as encryption, and it can easily be broken.

This is a very techy blog post but the take away for us mere mortals are:

* TRUSTe is no guarantee for security. It’s purpose is to certify a company’s privacy practices, not to certify their technology. So be aware of any misuse or misinterpretation.

* real security is based on open source projects so the actual code can be inspected

* encryption is something to be proud of, so if they don’t highlight what encryption they use, the app is not safe.

* beautiful interface is not the same as an app with solid functionality
