Cyber extortion: A growth industry

Cyber criminals have figured out a way to turn small money into big money: Encrypt the files of their victims, demand an affordable ransom of a few hundred dollars for the key, and watch the money pour in.

Ransomware is getting more and more sophisticated, and so are the criminals behind it. Take the PacMan example where Danish Chiropractors are targeted. Not a high profile group but anyone doing business or having money is a potential target.
Ransomware is fully automated and simple to acquire. SW can be ordered on the Dark Net hidden by TOR. It is the new street mugging or shop hold-up, that can hit anyone that unsuspiciously clicks on links in emails or on websites.
