A recently detected distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack was launched from 900 compromised CCTV cameras that were hijacked by hackers.

Anything connected can be hacked and used for malicious purposes. A simple configuration like changing default passwords is an important first step that often is neglected because of installations done by users without IT knowledge. So, it’s up to the manufacturers to eliminate this risk by forcing configuration scripts at first installation, for instance. Or even better, to adapt multi-factor authentication in their products and services.
